Rules

In an effort to enhance safety and create a more vibrant environment for everyone in our community, the City of Oberlin has enacted ordinances outlining the following guidelines for bicycle parking in the city. When operating a bicycle on City streets, it is essential to adhere to all traffic regulations.

Bicycles should be securely locked to any of the bike racks provided throughout the city.
Bicycles shall not be parked on the street or on a bike rack in the Central Business District* for more than 24 hours.
It is prohibited to secure or lock a bicycle to trees, street lights, stop signs, or other public property on City streets or sidewalks.
Anyone who violates any of these provisions may receive a $20 bicycle violation ticket.
If the violator is not present and cannot be located, the bicycle may be confiscated by the Oberlin Police Department and will only be released upon proof of ownership and payment of the fine.
Bicycles confiscated and unclaimed for 90 days will be disposed of in accordance with the law.

* Central Business District includes Main Street (between Vine Street and the crosswalk between Tappan Square and Hall Auditorium) and College Street (between Professor Street & Pleasant Street).
